paris has asked to marry Capulet’s daughter but he denies because she is too young, there is a party hosted by the capulets and they send a servant (who cant read) to read the guest list, and since he was having trouble reading he ask’s (who he thinks are rich capulets) if they could read it for him and sort of acciedently invites them, where romeo meets juliet.

Key quotation:

benvolio: “Tut, man, one fire burns out another’s burning, one pain is lessen’d by another’s anguish; Turn giddy, and be holp by backward turning; one desperate grief cures another man’s languish: take thou some new infection in thy eye, and the rank poison of the old will die.”
